For oral presentation we are doing an informative porter point on independent and dependent clauses. I am responsible for the definitions of both from which I found on OWL Purdue. The hard thing about the assignment is the lack of communication my group has had. We haven’t had class so it is very hard to keep in contact with everyone, and making sure everyone is doing their own part. The easy thing is following the outline we made, this made assigning jobs much easier even though we haven’t met in the classroom. To finish on time we can give constant reminders to each other, and correctly follow our outline. Also reading the guidelines, and what we specifically need will also help create our presentation.

Journal Ten
The only writing assignment I’ve been assigned from another class will be my Earth Science one thats due at the end of the year. The topic is writing about what I’ve learned from the four sections of earth science such as geology, oceanography, and astronomy. We have to explain one thing we have learned and how it applies to the future when we are outside of class.
I think the main difference will be in the types of essays we write we use “I” and thats first person. While in research and academic writing we use third person. Also in the writing class we get to voice our own opinions, and how we think we’re doing or how to improve. Also, we get our essays peer reviewed which helps tremendously when editing papers. While for my research paper we have to write facts, have sources, and do not get any help editing our papers unless we ask someone to. Thankfully, following and using the editing check list will surely help me develop a strong essay with out help from my peers or professor. Also using the things we have learned such as sentence structure or developing a thesis will help provide a strong foundation for what I am writing on.

Journal Nine
Based on my peer review I think I should start checking my essay more throughly. Whats being corrected I can easily fix myself, because it’s simple things such as commas is wrong places or spelling errors. A thing I could add to my essay revise check list is to double check my narrative point of view I’ve noticed I switch from first person to second a lot often than I would like. Also I could add double checking my subject and verb agreement, because I know I don’t always pick the right verb to go with the subject.
Unfortunately I didn’t have a plan for completing essay number three early. I completed it on time but, revising was last minute and I didn’t really have time to properly execute corrections. For next time though I hope to start revising after my peer reviews are done. That way I can take everything that’s been corrected and add it in, considering corrections are right of course. I will also add in my new items on the revising check list, and properly go through it for corrections.
Journal Eight
The most helpful thing about this course would be that we have to constantly write in order to get better. When writing essays we also get feedback from peers and it helps get others perspective for your writing. I think I still need the most help in writing introductions and topic sentences. Coming up with ideas is easy, but trying to stretch it out to meet a word count is difficult for me. Being so straight forward I find it unnecessary to constantly stretch out and explain an idea. We did the thesis and topic sentence structure activity in class and that helped a lot with developing the beginning of a paragraph. But I would hope to do an activity that would help me be able to stretch out my topic sentences that way I meet the sentence requirements.
